Russian Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) has long been used as a medicinal plant (mainly topically because the leaves contain chemicals pyrrolizidine alkaloids which can cause severe liver damage). However, comfrey’s high levels of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in its leaves are great for use in gardens to help plants establish healthy roots and fruits.
